The Beauty in Imperfection

Looking through my work you will notice quite a few mandalas are not perfectly centered on the page. Sometimes the centers are slightly off center, other times they are quite shifted. I like the movement and tension that creates ✨

The perfectly centered pieces evoke a sense of calm and stillness, while an off-center design feels as though it's in motion.

Slightly offsetting the center invites the you to bring more of yourself to the piece. Is the mandala arriving or departing? What direction do you feel it moving?

I love that interaction. I love that this reflects life itself. We rarely experience perfect balance. Most of our time is spent somewhere in between while we adapt and grow. That doesn't make those moments any less beautiful.

You'll also find a few pieces where I intentionally left traces of the underlying structure visible. In some paintings, pencil guidelines peek through the paint. They're easy to miss, but I chose to keep them because they remind me that every finished piece is built on an unseen foundation.

Most people only see the final artwork. They don't see the grids, the revisions, or the countless small decisions that brought it into existence. I like that these subtle marks quietly nod to the work behind the scenes.

For me, those intentional imperfections aren't flaws to hide…they're part of the story each mandala tells. They also show that it was human hands creating each piece, and while they are never "perfect", they are perfect because of that.

What do you see when you look at these pieces? I love understanding how differently each person experiences the same artwork.
